Carrier oil, also known as base oil is a vegetable oil extracted from the fatty portion of plants usually from seeds, kernels or nuts. They are mainly extracted by the cold pressed methods as this process maintains the best quality and quantity without affecting the natural contents within. It is used to dilute essential oils prior to topical application on skin. Each carrier oil has a different set of therapeutic properties and characteristics. Based on their therapeutic properties, color and overall aroma, pure carrier oils are used in natural lotions, creams, body oils, lip balms, bath oils and other moisturizing skin care products. 100% pure and natural carrier oils do not evaporate or impart their aroma. However Carrier oils can go rancid over time.
