Aniseed is basically originated from the eastern Mediterranean region and is cultivated in USA, North Africa, Russia and Europe. Extracted from the black Licorice root, the oil can exhibit an extensive range of therapeutic properties. Due to its medium viscosity, it solidifies at low temperature. The color of Aniseed varies from clear to pale yellow and it belongs to Apiaceae (Umbelliferae) family. Aniseed oil is produced by Steam Distillation method with the dried and crushed seeds of the annual herb, Pimpinella Anisum. The presence of high concentration of Anethole makes the seed delightful fragrant.

Uses

The seeds of the Anise have also been used to cure sleeplessness. To strengthen the nerves, a few drops of Aniseed oil may be used in a vaporizer. It is an effective expectorant and also holds aphrodisiac properties. Moreover, a similar paste of aniseed can be used in the treatment of lice and scabies.
